Mr. Marvin A. Fisher, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at South Hampton Place in Columbia, Mo. Marvin was born on January 21, 1926, in Rosebud, Mo. He was married on December 21, 1946, in Jefferson City, to Anna "Eileen" Hilgert, who preceded him in death on January 22, 2005. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Marvin attended school through the eighth grade prior to being needed to help on the family homestead. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. Marvin worked for the International Shoe Company for 23 years. He was then employed as a dock worker at Beaufort Transfer Trucking for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church; a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wyman Basinger, Post 35; and the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Marvin enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking and crafts. But most of all he loved and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as they loved and cherished him. Survivors include: two sons, Jimmie Fisher and his wife Frieda of Russellville, Mo. and Jackie Fisher and his wife Doris of Wardsville, Mo.; two daughters, Joyce Basnett and her husband Larry of Jefferson City, Mo. and Janet Basnett of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Eileen Fisher; his mother, Mary Ann Redden; his adopted grandparents, Tony and Bell Fisher; and his granddaughter, Amy Christine Basnett. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Shane Crum officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Preferred Hospice of Columbia, Mo.
