Ruby Mae Sullens

Ruby Mae Sullens, ages 75 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Landmark Hospital, Columbia, Mo. Ruby was born on July 8, 1937, in Jefferson City, to the late Lawrence and Clementia Eiken Hake. She was married on April 14, 1960, in Jefferson City, to Harold J. Sullens, who preceded her in death on November 12, 1998. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Ruby graduated from St. Peter School. She was employed with the International Shoe Factory, the Department of Revenue, and retiring in1985 from the House of Representatives Print Shop. Later, Ruby worked a business from her home, Do-It-Rite Ironing, which is still in operation today. She was a member of First Assembly of God. She volunteered at New Horizons and once a week at Salvation Army, and was an advocate for people with mental illnesses. Ruby enjoyed crocheting, dancing, and was known for her award winning Halloween costumes. She was a kind, giving person, who was always helping others. She loved her family, her many friends, and her cats. Survivors include: two daughters, Susan Gleason and her significant other, Charles Miller of Henley, Mo. and Tina Parker of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Mark Sullens and his wife Tana of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Bill Hake and his wife Carol of Taos, Mo., and Tom Hake of Jefferson City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sullens; her infant son, Danny Sullens; and her brother, Earl Hake. Visitation will be held from at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Lisa Deutsch officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Longview Cemetery.
