Mother Doris Dimple Cummings, 87, of Jefferson City went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 1, 1924, in Anderson County, Texas, a daughter of Floyd and Cleotra Anderson. Mother Cummings was united in holy matrimony to Daniel Cummings Sr., who preceded her in death in 1973. Mother Cummings enjoyed sewing clothes and doing alterations, not only for her family but for others as well. She was a Proverbs 31 woman. She truly lived according to Ecclesiastes 9:10 - Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might... Most recently she was a member of the Jefferson City Church of God in Christ. We looked forward to her attending services because we knew we would be blessed with her favorite song, "I Will Trust in the Lord". She was a lifetime member of McDonald Church of God in Christ where she served as church secretary and church treasurer. She leaves to cherish her memory seven children: Deborah Reeves and husband Gregory of Jefferson City; Bettye Carter and husband Halbert of Ft. Worth, Texas; Daniel Cummings Jr. of Palestine, Texas; Shirley Hamlett of Fort Worth, Texas; David Cummings and wife Catherine of Palestine, Texas; Ruth Giles and husband LeRoy of Fort Worth, Texas and Doris Howard of Eldersburg, Maryland, 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter: Brenda Cummings; one brother: Ernest Anderson; two sisters: Lillian Farris and Hattie Mae Phillips; and one son-in-law: Jerry Howard. Friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Jefferson City Church of God in Christ with Elder Alonzo K. Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Jefferson City Church of God in Christ Building Fund, 1442 Aaron Court, Jefferson City, Missouri, 65101. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St., (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
