Mr. Marvin J. Harris, age 84 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Marvin was born October 24, 1927, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of William L. "Willie" and Minnie Ousley Harris. He was married in June, 1947 to Dorothy M. Bellman. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Marvin attended Jefferson City Public Schools. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Marvin was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Corrections as a corrections officer in the Control Center at the Missouri State Penitentiary for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1992 as a Sergeant. Before his work at the penitentiary, he was employed with the International Shoe Factory for several years. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar, fishing, traveling across the United States with his wife, and gardening. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Harris; two daughters, Donna Kendall of Jefferson City, Mo. and Karen Harris of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Darrell Harris and his wife Lisa of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Yenigues and her husband Paul of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson, John Kendall Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert J. Harris in 1969 during the Vietnam War; his twin brother, Melvin Harris; brother, Joseph Harris; and sister, Frances Harris. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Clarke Senior Center.
