Mrs. Opal Mae Thomasson, age 89 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Summit Villa Nursing Center in Holts Summit, Mo. Opal was born May 5, 1922, in Tuscumbia, Mo., the daughter of George E. and Dora E. Warden Burks. She was married to Richard H. Thomasson, who preceded her in death on December 1, 1988. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue in the Dept. of Motor Vehicles for many years. Opal was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Luna of Jefferson City, Mo.; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Thomasson of Jefferson City, Mo.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jeff and Kathy Luna of St. Louis, Mo.; grandson, Kendall Thomasson of Kirksville, Mo.; grandson, Brad Luna of Holts Summit, Mo.; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Karla and Kerry Washington of Louisville, Kentucky; two great- granddaughters, Erin and Claire Luna of St. Louis, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Mildred Burks of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betty Burks of Macon, Mo.; and sister, Georgia Saucier of Holts Summit, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Gary Thomasson; and three sisters, Pearl Duemmel, Edith Major, and Shirley Quinn. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012. A Celebration of Opal's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, in the Freeman Chapel. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
