Mrs. Sue E. Cozart, age 69 years, of Smithton, Ill., a former Jefferson City resident, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, at her home. Sue was born on October 9, 1942, in Post, Texas, a daughter of James L. and Bessie L. Smith Bowen. She was married on September 12, 1961, in Post, Texas, to Jimmy D. Cozart, who preceded her in death on September 9, 1984. Sue graduated from Post High School in Post, Texas. She was a resident of the St. Louis area until 2002 when she moved to Jefferson City. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at several nursing homes and later with Ameristar Casino in St. Louis for 10 years. From 2003 until 2008, Sue was employed as a cashier with Scholastic in Jefferson City, Mo. Sue was a member and Sunday school teacher at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Jefferson City. She loved to volunteer and cook for many of the church functions. She enjoyed playing cards and for the past several years, traveling with her sister from coast to coast across the United States. Survivors include: two daughters, Janene Jones and her husband Tom of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jill R. Schnack and her husband Gary of Meta, Mo.; two sons, Jeffrey L. Gordon and his wife Konnie of Smithton, Ill. and James "Jay" David Cozart and his wife Bene of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, James L. "Butch" Bowen Jr. and his wife Golda of Quitman, Texas; one sister, Bonnie Ann Ward of Shreveport, La.; 13 grandchildren, Kristina Caldwell, Jeremy Cozart, David Butzer, Tabrina Ennis, Eric Schnack, Austin Cozart, Dylan Cozart, Jessica Gordon, Addison Gordon, Chrissy Jackson, Amanda Maschhoff and Michael Maschhoff; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Caldwell, Peyton Caldwell, Parker Noble, Aden Ennis, Colin Ennis, Christopher Jackson and Jacob Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmy; one brother, James C. Bowen; and two sisters, Billie D. Cannon and Verna "June" J. Sutton. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2012, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Reverend Brian K. Credille officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Rombauer Cemetery near Poplar Bluff, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4930 Old Lohman Rd., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
