Larry Joseph Kliegel, 70, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, April 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born March 25, 1942, in Jefferson City, a son of Albert Joseph and Velma Laverne (Karr) Kliegel. He was a 1960 graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia. Larry served in the Missouri National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He worked as a bricklayer with his father before working for Randazzo's and Westinghouse (ABB) until his retirement in 2004. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and scratching lottery tickets. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Kliegel of Jefferson City; a stepdaughter, Debra Spurgeon of Jefferson City; one sister, Shirley Kolb and husband Norbert of Jefferson City; two brothers: Bill Kliegel of Jefferson City, Tom Kliegel and wife Pat of St. Thomas; one grandson, Chance D. Gardner; a step granddaughter, Heather Spurgeon; a special friend, Karen Mobley of Jefferson City; and his loyal canine companion, Russ. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Kliegel; and a step granddaughter, Destiny Spurgeon. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Margaret of Antioch Cemetery in Osage Bend. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Margaret of Antioch Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.
