Hilda Anna Marie Winkelman, age 96, of Jefferson City, formerly of Brinktown, departed this life Monday, September 26, 2011, in the Jefferson City Manor Care Center, Jefferson City. Mrs. Winkelman had been in failing health for some time. She was born November 7, 1914, at Brinktown, a daughter of Peter and Philomena (Bauer) Brune. Mrs. Winkelman was united in marriage on November 19, 1935, at Brinktown, to Adolph Stephen Winkelman, and to this union, six children were born. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, where she had served as church organist for over 40 years. Mrs. Winkelman had taught many young people in the area to play the piano and organ during her life. She was also a member of the St. Ann's Ladies Sodality of the church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047, and the Brinktown WPFA Ladies Club. Mrs. Winkelman and her husband were proprietors of the Winkelman's General Store, Brinktown, from 1940 until the closing of the store in 1972. She was also a devoted housewife and homemaker during her working life and especially enjoyed quilting, her flower gardens and fishing with her grandchildren. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Winkelman include: four sons and daughters-in-law, Edmund and Anna Marie Winkelman, New Bloomfield, James and JoAnn Winkelman, Jefferson City, Raymond and Betty Ann Winkelman, Ashland, and Gerald and Patrice Winkelman, Denver, Colorado; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae and Lawrence Redel and Carolyn "Kay" and Louis Freidinger, all of Jefferson City; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 15, 1993; one great-grandson, John Nelson in March 2007; her father on January 1, 1969; her mother on October 17, 1956; seven brothers, Anthony Brune at the age of four years in 1909, Henry Brune on September 11, 1963, Adam Brune in 1978, Frank Brune in 1991, Philip August Brune on August 13, 1997, Aloysius William "Al" Brune on March 10, 2001 and Joseph Brune on September 10, 2001; and two sisters, Frances Ham in 1958 and Anna Catherine Brune on August 23, 1994. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Winkelman at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, in the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz celebrating. Interment will be in the Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brinktown, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. A Prayer Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz leading followed by visitation from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, in the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown. Masses or memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice are preferred by the family with envelopes available at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
