Loyd Cassmeyer (Veteran)

Loyd A. Cassmeyer, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011, at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born April 19, 1928, in Folk, Missouri, a son of Arthur and Mamie Brester Cassmeyer. On June 5, 1954, Loyd was united in marriage in Folk to Viola Baumhoer, who survives at their home. Loyd served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. He worked for Midwest Block and Brick until his retirement after 35 years of service. Loyd was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003 and the Marine Corps League, Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, traveling and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola Cassmeyer; one son, Carl Cassmeyer (Vicki Moran) of Westphalia; three daughters, Darlene Muessig (Matt) and Donna Withouse of Jefferson City, Barbara Kliethermes (Greg) of Taos; a son-in-law, Jim Strong of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren, Brian Rice, Kelly Schneider (Chris), Sara Wheat (Kevin), Nathan Muessig (Dana), Leah Pickering (Jeff), Danielle Muessig (Morgan Patterson), Jamie Kliethermes, Emily Kliethermes, Bradley Cassmeyer, Staci Withouse, Maggie Hughes, Max Hughes; three step-grandchildren, Nikki Strong-Franke (Marc), Jamie Strong, Stewart Strong; two great-grandchildren, Audrey Muessig, Brooklyn Wheat and expecting baby Carson Wheat in January; two step-great-grandchildren, Cameron Billings, Brayden Pemberton; one brother, Al Cassmeyer (Helen) of Fulton; and one sister, Erma Van Loo of Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Cassmeyer on July 2, 1972; one daughter, Joyce Strong on July 15, 2010; one son-in-law, Stacy Withouse on May 25, 1988; and two brothers-in-law, Clifford Van Loo and Norman Baumhoer. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Brendan P. Doyle and Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
