Alvin Marcum

Alvin Henry Jacob Marcum, age 70, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011, at his home in Jefferson City. He was born October 28, 1940 in California, the son of Samuel Alvin Marcum and Aleene Anadia Voigt Marcum Manly, both of whom preceded him in death. Alvin attended the Annunciation Catholic School in California and graduated from California High School. He was united in marriage on June 2, 1962, in Tipton, to Carole Nadine Koechner Marcum, who survives of the home. Alvin was co-owner of Marcum's Grooming in Jefferson City and retired after 30 years of service with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department in Jefferson City. He was a member of the St. Joseph Cathedral in Jefferson City and Annunciation Catholic Church in California, American Kennel Club, Republican Party, Tea Party and Judicial Watch. Alvin enjoyed Shih-Tzu dogs, cockatiels, canaries, emus, chickens, small farming, miniature horses, and spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed. Survivors include: his wife, Carole of the home; one son, Samuel Alvin Marcum with his wife Cheryl Lynn Kirsch Marcum of Russellville; one daughter, Natalie Dee Marcum Dykes with her husband James Warren Dykes of Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Zachary, Hayden, Riley, and Gavin; one brother, Larry "Peanuts" Eugene Marcum; three half- brothers, Wayne Robert Manly, Richard Alvin and Samuel Vaughn Marcum; and two half- sisters, Beverly Ann Linhart and Teresa Lynn Marcum. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Sterling Marcum; and two half-brothers, George Michael Marcum and Russell Allen Marcum. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Weber Funeral Home in California. Private graveside family memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, in care of Friends of Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 919 East Miller St. Jefferson City, MO 65101.
