Esther C. Loethen, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Villa Marie Skilled Care Center. She was born March 9, 1925, in Jefferson City, a daughter of the late Eli A. and Ida M. (Inman) Sanders. She was married on March 10, 1946, in Jefferson City to Albert H. Loethen, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1968. Esther attended Jefferson City High School. She worked as a waitress at Tambke's Restaurant from 1942 to 1946. She owned and operated Esther's Beauty Salon for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1992. She was the past historian for the National Cosmetologist's Association. Esther was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW, Past Red Cross Volunteer, and past Girl Scout Leader. She received numerous awards for establishing various Polio Clinics around town and volunteered many years in the lunchroom at St. Peter's School. She is survived by one daughter: Marsha Wadley (husband John "Bud") of Jefferson City; one grandson: Scott A. "Sarge" Wadley (wife Cindy) of Spearville, Kan.; two great-granddaughters: Autumn and Callie Wadley of Spearville, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson: Matthew John Wadley; three sisters: Margie Tillery, Alma Cuno, Nadine Winingear; and four brothers: Harry Sanders, Leroy Sanders, Charlie Sanders and Carl Sanders. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Fr. Basil Eruo officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.
