Richard Lee Schrimpf, 71, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at his home. He was born September 20, 1939 in Macon, the son of the late Hugo Peter and Mary Frances Finnell Schrimpf. Richard attended St. Peter's Grade School and was a graduate of St. Peter's High School. He was employed with the Governor Hotel from 1953-1959, Melody Shop from 1962-1966 and also with ABB where he retired. Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on board the USS Randolph Aircraft Carrier from 1961 to 1965. He was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was a devoted father and brother and enjoyed making handcrafted wooden furniture and banjos. Richard was an amateur magician, music lover, and animal lover especially his two cats. He is survived by his one son: Christopher Schrimpf of St. Louis; one sister: Carolyn Cline of Jefferson City; and one brother: James Dale Schrimpf of Jefferson City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Francis Doyle, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson City.
