Lurene Vale Lewis, 88, of Kansas City, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born February 2, 1923, in Lamar, a daughter of Clarinda King. She attended schools in Nevada, Mo., and was a graduate of Nevada High School. Lurene was married to Stanley M. Dumas and William F. Lewis, both who preceded her in death. She was a seamstress for Betty Rose Garment Factory for 17 years until her retirement. Following retirement, Lurene worked for Seton Center, where she assisted the elderly and disabled, and worked for Iceburg Drug Store and Velvet Freeze. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, flowers and playing bingo. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Ann Sayles of Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Reginald Walker, Buford (Chuck) Walker, Raymond Walker, Janna Hobley, Gary Johnson, Toni Sayles; 17 great-grandchildren, David Walker, Dwayne Walker, Jordan Walker, Jadan Walker, Kristen Walker, Monique Harris, Zoe Lopoz, Rachel Walker, Dmitri Walker, Julian Walker, Janae Tyans, Patricia Hobley, Joycelyn Hobley, Dustin Hogugh, Justin Foster, Theo Sayles, Lomar Sayles; and two sisters, Mahoma Smith and Lucille McDonald. Lurene was also preceded in death by her mother, Clarinda King; grandson, Brian Kieth Johnson; and sister, Frances Thomas. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Humane Society.
