Adell Thomas

Adell Jane Thomas, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville. Adell was born in Canaan on October 31, 1923. She is the daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Lockhart Jenkins. Adell grew up and lived most of her life in the Bland and Belle communities. She was married to Jackson Thomas and to this union three children were born. Adell worked in the local shoe factory, as a cook in the public school, and drove a school bus, but her greatest role was homemaker, mother, and wife. Surviving Adell is her son, Leroy Thomas with his wife Laverne of Belle and two daughters, Susan Hooper withher husband Ron of Pacific and Rhonda Johnson with her husband Rick of Jefferson City. Also surviving is one brother, Bill Jenkins of Oklahoma; two half brothers, Jim and Darrel Decker of Owensville and one half sister, Shirley Felton of Arkansas. Adell was blessed with six grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many other family members and friends. Preceding Adell in death are her parents; stepfather, Dewey Decker; husband, Jack; sister, Louella Picker; brother, Bob Jenkins and two infant grandchildren, Kimberly and Mark Thomas. Services will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bland. Rev. Lewis Curtis and Rev.. Bob Dotson will officiate. Interment will be in the Old Bland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "It's all about Amber" at Mid America Bank in Belle. Arrangements are under the direction of Sassman's Funeral Home, Bland.
