Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Schnieders, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011, at the Golden Living Center. She was born March 10, 1929, in Jefferson City, a daughter of the late James Joseph and Mary Frances (Swillum) Walsh. She was a graduate of St. Peter High School in Jefferson City. On October 30, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Stanley Schnieders, who preceded her in death on August 29, 1993. Betty was much more than a farmers wife and mother. She was the heart and soul of her family. Her nurturing and loving ways made her "Mom" and "Grandma Betty" to many more than just her own. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed going to the club, playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by nine children: Jeanne Strope (husband Dan) of Houston, Texas, Evelyn Samson (husband Don) of Jefferson City, Greg Schnieders of Centertown, Barbara Lindsey (husband Mark) of Jefferson City, Sharon Williams (husband Dennis) of Springfield, Sandy White (husband Michael) of Columbia, Carol McBride of Jefferson City, Russ Schnieders (wife Sandy) of Shawnee, Kan., and Tim Schnieders (wife Christy) of Jefferson City; one brother: Dan Walsh (wife Virginia) of Jefferson City; 19 grandchildren: Jason Strope, Aaron Strope, Jessica Ehrenreich, Scott Samson, Clinton Samson, Mariah Schnieders, Ezra Schnieders, Mark Lindsey II, Jacob Lindsey, Jordan Williams, Daniel Williams, Joshua White, Amy Kolb, Luke Jiles, Amanda Schnieders, Blake Schnieders, Elizabeth Schnieders, Emily Brookshire, and Luke Brookshire; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandson: Trent Jiles on March 17, 2009; and eight siblings: James Walsh, Garrett Walsh, Sam Baker Walsh, Marie Goodwin, Helen Spaunhorst, Agnes Borgmeyer, Margie Schroeder and Mag Fechtel. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, with Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Vitae Society or the St. Joseph Cathedral Foundation.
