Mrs. Henrietta L. Massie, age 92 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011, at her home. Henrietta was born on March 14, 1918, in Clinton, Mo., the daughter of Louis J. and Anna Florence Mertel Hendrich. She was married on September 22, 1945, in Clinton, Mo. to Gerald R. Massie who preceded her in death on May 11, 1989. A resident of Jefferson City since 1945, Henrietta graduated from Clinton High School in 1935, and attended Warrensburg Business College. She was employed as a manager with Firestone Tire and Rubber Store until her retirement in 1945. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; a Girl Scout Leader; a member and past president of Cole County Historical Society; PEO Chapter JB; a docent for 20 years at the Governor's Mansion and many other community organizations. Henrietta enjoyed sewing, scherenchnitte, gardening and cooking. She was known as a world class bread maker. Survivors include: one son, Dan T. Massie of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Kathleen Pierce and her husband Bill of Webster Groves, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kristin Pierce of St. Louis, Mo. and Justin Pierce and his wife Christina of St. Charles, Mo. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Private graveside services will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of their choice.
