Mary Elizabeth Bassmann

Mary Elizabeth Bassmann, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born September 15, 1926, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Lock) Struempf. She was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in Jefferson City. On April 8, 1945, she was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to Lewis "Bud" William Bassmann, who preceded her in death on December 3, 2001. Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mary was a wonderful seamstress and cook. She enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, going to rummage sales, and making baby pillows. Children from all over have one of Mary's baby pillows. She is survived by six children: Mary Sue Higgins of Jefferson City; Sally A. Morrow of Jefferson City; Sherri E. Grothaus (husband Leo) of Marshall; Samuel L. Bassmann (wife Donna) of Jefferson City; Sidney G. Bassmann of Jefferson City; Sarah M. Bassmann of Jefferson City; two sisters: Viola Johnson of Jefferson City; Delores "Lorie" Forck of Mexico; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert Struempf, Arthur Struempf and Francis Struempf. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Brendan P. Doyle officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Samaritan Center.
