Paul T. Brandt, age 80 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at his home after a battle with cancer. Paul was born December 15, 1930, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Bernard and Eva Todd Brandt. He was married on November 21, 1950, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Mary Bledsoe. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Paul became a firefighter in 1962, and was employed with the Jefferson City Fire Dept. for 34 years, retiring as a Captain in March, 1996. He had previously been employed with International Shoe Factory. He was a member of St. Peter Church; the International Assn. of Firefighters, Local 671; and was a Golden Eagle with the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693. Paul was an expert pool player and enjoyed hunting, barbequing, and crappie fishing. He played softball in his younger years and later in life spent time watching sports on television, especially NASCAR and golf. He would tell tall tales to anyone gullible enough to listen. Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Mary Brandt; two sons, Lonnie Brandt and his wife Linda of Lake MyKee, Mo. and Jerry Brandt and his partner, Kate Spencer of Pierpont, Mo.; one daughter, Paula Wekenborg and her husband Tom of Taos, Mo.; one brother, Henry Brandt and his wife JoAnn of Louisville, Mississippi; one sister, Eva Mae Distler and her husband Leroy of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Carly Wagner of Los Angeles, California, Josh Wekenborg of Jefferson City, Mo., Katie Wekenborg of Taos, Mo., Craig Wekenborg of Tebbetts, Mo., Archer Brandt of Pierpont, Mo., Christina Holt of Centertown, Mo., and Lindsey Holt of Lake MyKee, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Connor Wekenborg of Jefferson City, Mo. and Kionna Holt of Centertown, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Brandt on April 2, 1980, and Jim Todd on July 6, 1990; and one sister, Linda Wegman on November 29, 2010. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel with a firefighter prayer service to immediately follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend David Maher officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Vogelweid Learning Center.
