Raymond Borgmeyer

Raymond Henry Borgmeyer, 90, of Taos, Missouri, passed from this world to eternal peace on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Westphalia Hills, surrounded by his family. He was born August 29, 1921, in Taos, a son of the late Bernard and Mary Borgmeyer. He was married October 22, 1946, at St Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta to Marie Koerber, who survives of the home. Ray and Marie recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 22, at their granddaughter's wedding. Ray was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and was a charter and honorary lifetime member of Taos Knights of Columbus Council 6430. He was involved in the purchase of Taos' first fire truck. He is a veteran of World War II where he served in the Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd class from 1942 through 1945. He was stationed in Guam during part of his tour. He was employed with Tweedies Shoe Company for 25 years until it closed its doors in 1965. Ray bought his family homestead in 1954, and was a dairy and beef cattle farmer until his retirement. Ray was a wonderful neighbor and great friend. After a long day on the farm, Ray enjoyed listening to the Cardinals on the radio under the maple trees. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher and played at many county fairs and tournaments. His Life was his Family, his Farm and his Friends. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Marie, and nine children. Six Daughters: Dee Thompson (Rich Lee), Reno, Nevada; Laurale (Greg) Gerling, Covington, Georgia; Carol (Phillip) Ortbals, Taos, Missouri; Germaine (Harry) Renn, Holts Summit, Missouri; Mona (Chris) Haller, Springfield, Missouri; Donna (Bob) Osterlund, Stillwell, Kansas. Three Sons: Albert (Donna) Borgmeyer, Taos, Missouri; Kenny (Debbie) Borgmeyer, Taos, Missouri; Dr. Roger (Peggy) Borgmeyer, California, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one step; great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Lucas Borgmeyer; four sisters: Walburga Thessen, Sister Bernard Marie Borgmeyer, Sister Felician Borgmeyer, Sister Raymond Borgmeyer; and five Brothers: Frank Borgmeyer, John Borgmeyer, Lambert Borgmeyer, Bill Borgmeyer and Joe Borgmeyer. Friends will be received from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Taos Knights of Columbus Hall, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos, with Fr. Wayne M. Boyer officiating. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment with full military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
