Robert "Red" William Thompson, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born October 13, 1923, in Vandalia, a son of the late C.L. and Rebekah (Mitchell) Thompson. He was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson City High School and went on to graduate in 1948 from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. On February 11, 1962, Robert was united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, to Margaret L. Holzleitner, who survives at their home. Robert started working for N.O. Nelson Company/Win-nelson in 1949, and was President of the company from 1969 - 1981. After retiring from Winnelson in 1981, he continued on as an employee doing various jobs until he fully retired in 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Army from November 1942 until January 1946. He served in the Battery C 149th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre in New Guinea and the Philippines. Robert was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the VFW Roy Sone Post 1003, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Plumbing-Heating Council, the Mid-West American Supply Association and the Refrigeration Service Engineering Society. He enjoyed fishing, being in the outdoors, doing computer work and the internet, barbecuing, watching television and sporting events, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Along with his wife Margaret, Robert is also survived by two daughters: Lorraine Thompson of Basel, Switzerland, and Patricia "Trish" Braun (husband Curtis) of Jefferson City; one granddaughter: Kamry Volkmer of Jefferson City; one sister: Kathleen Thompson of Jefferson City; and one brother: Lee Thompson (wife Mary) of Phoenix, Arizona. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Elizabeth Miller and Clydene Anselmo. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Scott Musselman officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1529 Southwest Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109; ELCA World Hunger, P.O.
