Mr. Clyde W. Smith, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Clyde was born March 28, 1926, in Rector, Arkansas, the son of Collie B. and Clara E. Williams Smith. He was married on May 6, 1947, in Rector, Arkansas to Betty J. Norman. Clyde attended school in Rector, Arkansas and served in the United States Navy during World War II. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1958, he was employed with Delong's, Inc. and as a store clerk at Gerbes West until his retirement in 1986. Clyde was a member of the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, but most importantly, reading the Bible and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Betty Smith; one son, James Robert Smith and his wife Patty of Portales, New Mexico; one daughter, Janet R. Wyrick and her husband Ray of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Schenk of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Neal Schoessel of Osceola, Arkansas; four grandchildren, James Clyde Smith and his wife Kim of Farmington, New Mexico, Cam Nicole Isbell and her husband Robert of Farmington, New Mexico, Dane Wyrick of Omaha, Nebraska, and Emilee Wyrick of Jefferson City, Mo.; five great- grandchildren, Dillon and Reagan Smith and Hannah, Halee, and Robert "Bobby" Isbell. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and five brothers. Visitation will be at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011, at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ with Brent Newton officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will be held at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, Arkansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Children's Home, Inc. in Paragould, Arkansas, Fair Haven Children's Home in Strafford, Mo., or the Fairground Roads Church of Christ.
