Mrs. Betty Ambrose, age 88 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center. Betty Lucille Hunt was born on December 17, 1922, in Monett, Mo., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.I. Hunt, both deceased. On November 17, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., she was united in marriage to John Leslie Ambrose, who preceded her in death on March 2, 2009. She graduated in 1940 from Monett High School and in 1942 from Monett Junior College. In 1944 Betty began working for the Veterans Administration and moved to Jefferson City. She was employed by the Veterans Administration, the Missouri Attorney General Office, and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce. She was a secretary to Governor Phil Donnelly, and was appointed by the Governor to be the Secretary to Major Curtis Brostron during his role as lead investigator of the 1954 Missouri Penitentiary Riot. She later worked for the Employment Security Credit Union, the Missouri Bus and Truck Association, and the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association. After retirement Betty was a volunteer with the Capital Region Medical Center Auxiliary where she put her sewing and quilting skills to good use. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church and a past member of Beta Sigma Phi. Betty is survived by her two sons, Thomas Hunt Ambrose and his wife Joan of Wilmette, Ill., and their children Dan and Sarah; and Dr. William Leslie Ambrose and his wife Becky of Jefferson City and their children Whitney and Elliott; two sisters, Mrs. Helen McNeely of Henrico, Va. and Mrs. Joanne Auinbaugh of Webster Groves, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a brother, Raymond Hunt; and three sisters, Elnora Hunt, Roberta Dore and Doris Lipcaman. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City or the Capital Region Medical Center Partner's Auxiliary.
