William F. Peneston, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born July 30, 1926, in Fulton, a son of the late Sherman Lee and Ida E. Thomas Peneston. He attended Fulton Pubic Schools. On May 24, 1952, he was united in marriage in Burlington, Iowa, to Shirley Near, who survives at the home. William worked as a foreman for Chicago Bridge and Iron where he supervised the building of water towers and storage tanks. He served in the United States Army during World War II from November 10, 1944 to August 12, 1946 in the European Theatre. William was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and helping out the American Legion in Kimberling City. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Along with his wife Shirley, he is survived by his five children: Sherry Sadler, Gary Peneston, Kenneth Peneston, Donald Peneston and Sarah Becker, all of Jefferson City; three siblings, Herbert H. Peneston of Lake Havasue City, Ariz., Robert T. Peneston of Fulton, and Alberta Barrett of Fulton; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Christine Peneston on October 17, 1999; and two brothers, Leroy Peneston and George Peneston. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Rev. Russ Bowder officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
