Kenneth Earl Brandes, 76, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. He was born October 13, 1934, in Boonville, a son of the late Earl and Annabelle (Huckabay) Brandes. He was a 1953 graduate of Laura Speed Elliott High School in Boonville. On July 14, 1987, Ken was united in marriage in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Dianne Kempker, who survives at their home. Ken worked as a driver in the transportation industry for Budweiser Distributorship in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Missouri Distributors; Jefferson City Transit System and Brinks. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Ken was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 5, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed boating and taught water skiing in Boonville. He always liked black cars and trucks, especially his 1985 Cadillac. Ken also enjoyed fishing and barbecuing. He had a lifelong love of animals, especially his miniature pincher, Abbey. Along with his wife Dianne, Ken is survived by a son: Mark Brandes (wife Laurie) of Holts Summit; a step-son: Ben Schneiders (wife Brandy) of Russellville; and two grandchildren: Kenneth Brandes and Joseph Brandes, both of Holts Summit. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2010, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Donald W. Lammers officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or the P.K.D. Kidney Foundation.
