Alvin Saucier

Alvin David Saucier, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at the Westphalia Retirement Center. He was born December 4, 1919, in Morrelton, a son of James Garfield and Ida Hoffman Saucier. On June 25, 1946, Alvin was united in marriage to Ruth Schrader, who preceded him in death on May 12, 2001. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Grade School and was a 1938 graduate of St. Peter's Catholic High School. He also graduated in 1942 from Rockhurst College in Kansas City. Alvin served in the United States Army during World War II at the South Pacific-The Theatre from 1942 to 1946. He was employed with the State of Missouri-Division of Youth Services-Director of Aftercare from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. Alvin was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church since 1949. He served on the local parish council, Holy Name Society and the Diocesan Pastoral Council. He enjoyed horseback riding, which he taught in 4-H. He loved to ice skate and eat ice cream. He is survived by his seven children: Barbara Hood and husband Tom of Jefferson City, Mark Saucier and wife Carolyn of Jefferson City, Mary Toller and husband John of Greenville, North Carolina, Matthew Saucier and wife Rhonda of Jefferson City, Carol Saucier-Roling and husband Bobby of Jefferson City, Christy DeChant and husband Jim of Jefferson City and Jeanne McLellan and husband Jay of Madison, Wisconsin; 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son: Stephen Saucier; one brother: Leo Saucier; and two sisters: Gladys Barron and Helen Rose. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Taos Knights of Columbus, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Taos Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2010, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father David Maher officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice Compassus or the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
