Hartmut O. Groenda, 85, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Adams Street Place. He was born on September 14, 1924, in Des Peres, Mo., son of Emil and Marie Henkle Groenda. He was united in marriage on September 17, 1948, in St. Louis, Mo., to Joan Murphy, who survives at her home. He was a graduate of Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Mo. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, where he served as a radio gunner on B17's in the China-Burma-India Theater. He worked for Meramec Junior College and Missouri Baptist Hospital. Hartmut enjoyed remodeling houses, traveling, taking his dogs for walks and especially spending time with his family. He is also survived by his four children: Kurt Groenda (Janet) of Palmyra, Mo., Gretchen (Allen) Walz of Jefferson City, Mo., Kristina "Birdy" (Dan) Duvall of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Ann (Jeff) Zoellner of Jefferson City; one sister: Evelyn Reddington of the state of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Inge Bopp, of Kirkwood, Mo. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Rev. Murl Nash officiating. Interment will be in the Hamilton Cemetery in Cuba, Mo. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
