James Christian Gierke, 38, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born November 17, 1971, in St. Charles, Missouri. He was a 1990 graduate of Louisiana High School in Louisiana, Missouri, and went on to earn his degrees in Biology and Geology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He worked for MECO Engineering as a Surveyor, and previously had worked for Lowe's Home Improvement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Louisiana, Missouri. He is survived by his father: James "Jim" Gierke of Lake of the Ozarks; his mother: Brenda Gierke Richardson of Jefferson City; one brother: Brent Gierke (wife Sue) of Bentonville, Arkansas; one nephew: Jacob Gierke; and two nieces: Carly Gierke and Rachael Gierke. He was preceded in death by a brother: Jacob Adam Gierke in 1989; his step-father: Dave Richardson in 2006; and his grandparents: Victor and Laura Gierke and William and Ruby Bland. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Friends will also be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri, with Rev. Thur officiating. Interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Jacob Gierke Scholarship Fund, c/o Mercantile Bank in Louisiana, Missouri.
