Carlos Rafael Mendez, 57, of Jefferson City, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born October 24, 1952, in Guatemala, a son of Leocadio and Romelia Valenzuela Mendez. He was united in marriage on September 25, 1989, in Los Angeles, California, to Norma Gil, who survives at their home. Carlos worked in the supply room at Cargill in California, Missouri. He was a member of the Familia Cristiana Internacional at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, where he played the congas and timbales in the church band. He loved to do carpentry work and was an excellent mechanic. He is also survived by his mother: Romelia Valenzuela of Palin, Guatemala; four sons: Geovanny Mendez, Antonio Mendez and Juan Jose Mendez all of Palin, Guatemala, and Brian David Mendez of the home in Jefferson City; two sisters: Elvira Mendez and Estela Mendez; and two brothers: Arturo Mendez and Leonardo Mendez. Carlos was a loving husband and father and will be missed by his family and friends. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Noah Angel officiating. Interment will be in the General Cemetery of Palin in Palin, Guatemala. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W.
