Opal Schwab, 100, of California, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at California Care Center. She was born on August 17, 1909, in California, the daughter of Edgar and Maggie (McFarland) Dunham, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married in Jefferson City, on May 30, 1929, to George “Spud” Schwab, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1997. Opal and her husband owned and operated Schwab Oil Company, where she worked as the bookkeeper for 50 years. She was a longtime member of California United Church of Christ, and loved walking at the park, knitting, riding her exercise bike, and being with family. She was a 1928 graduate of Aurora High School in California. She is survived by one son: Jerry Schwab of Liberty; two grandchildren: Mark Schwab of Liberty, and Sandy Adams and husband Dr. James Adams of Kirksville; two great-grandchildren: Maggie and Brooke Adams of Kirksville; one sister-in-law: Theola Schwab Manning of Honolulu, Hawaii; one cousin: Alma Belle Chambers of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother: William Dunham. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. Burial will be in California City Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Jeffery Hammonds and Rev. Collette Jones. Visitation will also be on Sunday, March 28, from 2:00 p.m. n 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to either the Proctor Park Memorial Fund or to California United Church of Christ, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
