Levi Schepers (Veteran)

Levi H. Schepers, 91, of Wardsville, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010. He was born May 12, 1918, in Castle Rock, a son of the late Albert and Christina (Toebben) Schepers. On September 4, 1946, he was united in marriage in Folk, to Regina Weckenborg. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 - 1947 attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was an inspector for Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company in St. Louis, retiring after 31 years of service. He moved to Cooper Hill and later to Wardsville, upon retirement and spent his time gardening, playing cards, working with the Historical Society in Osage County, and visiting with his many friends, neighbors and family. He enjoyed attending ship reunions, traveling the United States and abroad, especially Germany where he perused his passion for genealogy. He spent seven years researching and compiling a history of the Schepers family titled "Descendants of Gerhard H. Schepers 1805-2000". He had a strong sense of humor and was always ready with a joke. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 4756 in Linn. In May of 2009 he was fortunate to be part of the Honor Flight to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He is survived by Regina, his wife of 63 years; a daughter, Sylvia Klotz (husband Jim) of Tennessee; a son, Garold Schepers (wife Anita) of Virginia; five grandchildren, James L. Klotz (wife Sara), Christina White, Julie Klotz, John Schepers (wife Nikki) and Jessica Klotz; four great-granddaughters, Sierra White, Caroline Klotz, Heidi White, and Olivia Klotz; two sisters, Edna Franken and Dolores Thruston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Clarence, Vincent, Norbert and Wilfred Schepers; and two sisters, Clara Prenger and Lorine Franken. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. Monday at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, with Reverend Gregory Meystrik and Reverend John J. Johnson officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church or Osage County Historical Society in Linn.
