Leroy Renn

Mr. Leroy J. "Cotton" Renn, age 95 years, of Lake MyKee, Mo., died Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center. Cotton was born June 4, 1914, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Leo P. and Virginia B. Gilmore Renn, both deceased. He was married on February 26, 1935, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Florence L. Winge, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2002. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Leroy attended Schumate Chapel school. He owned and operated Renn's Custom Butchering Shop for over 36 years and was also employed with Missouri Pacific Railroad for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Peter Church and a member of the Jefferson City Evening Lions Club. He was the recipient of the Melvin E. Jones Outstanding Service Award, the highest award of Lions International. Survivors include: four sons, William Renn and his wife Shirley of Hartsburg, Mo., Roy Renn and his wife Shirley of Jefferson City, Mo., Jim Renn and his wife Margie of Cole County, Mo., and Harry Renn and his wife Germaine of Callaway County, Mo.; four daughters, Virginia Shirley of Susan City, California, Jeanie Werdenhausen and her husband Fred of Lake MyKee, Mo., Sue Tussey of Jefferson City, Mo., and Marilyn Sinor and her husband Dean of Theodosia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, Rance Renn, Tina Bruns, Brian Werdenhausen, Kenny Werdenhausen, Dennis Werdenhausen, Natalie Ehlenbeck, Eric Renn, Bob Lane, Tracy Prenger, Jeane Herfurth, Dennis Batye, Dale Bayte, Donna Diaz, and Darla Jett; 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Marie Lane. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the Freeman Chapel with Monsignor Donald Lammers officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
