Mrs. Delores Benson "Dodie" Tanner, age 83 years, of DeSoto, Kansas, a former Jefferson City resident, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Hillside Village, DeSoto, Kansas. Dodie was born September 16, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Clarence W. and Betty Snyder Benson. She was married in 1948, in Columbia, Mo. to Dr. Robert Harvey Tanner. She went to grade school in St. Louis, high school in the St. Louis suburb of Richmond Heights, and college at the University of Missouri at Columbia. In college, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After a short time in St. Louis, Dodie and Robert moved to Jefferson City, where Robert established his medical practice. In Jefferson City, Dodie was a member of the Cole County Medical Auxiliary; PEO, Chapter JV; and the Tuesday Club of which she was president. Dodie and Robert were also members of the Jefferson City Country Club where they much enjoyed playing golf. Survivors include: her husband Robert, who continues to reside in Hillside Village, DeSoto, Kansas, and two children, Eric Tanner (wife Rosalind), an attorney who practices in Kansas City, Mo. and Katherine Scott (husband David), a nurse who practices in the Kansas City area. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sam Scott, Sarah Scott Walsh (husband David), and Adam Tanner, who live and work in the Kansas City area, Jacob Tanner, who lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana, and great-granddaughter, Vada Catherine Walsh. A visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central United Church of Christ or the Salvation Army. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
