Joseph Brunnert (Veteran)

Joseph George "Joe" Brunnert, age 90, of Argyle, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Maries Manor Care Center, Vienna. He was born April 11, 1920, near Argyle, in Osage County, a son of Philip Joseph and Regina Frances (Luebbert) Brunnert. Mr. Brunnert was united in marriage on June 13, 1953, at Argyle to the former Miss Catherine Johanna Koerber by the late Fr. Charles Schilling. He served in World War II from October 1941 to December 8, 1944. Mr. Brunnert worked for McDonald Charcoal Company for many years and was foreman at the Argyle, Meta and Reynolds plants. After the charcoal company closed, he worked at Langenberg Hat Factory, Vienna, until his retirement. He cut and trimmed the grass at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, for over 30 years. He was one of the original volunteer fire fighters when the Argyle Fire Department was started and later served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Brunnert was a charter member of the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8045 that was started in 1946. For many years he checked the VFW hall every morning and one day when he got there the hall was on fire. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, where he served as an usher for many years. Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Brunnert include his wife, Katie of the home in Argyle; two sisters, Johanna Brunnert, Argyle and Dolores Brunnert, Thornton, Colorado; three brothers, Edwin "Ed" Brunnert, Argyle; Charles Brunnert, West Point, Nebraska; and Eugene "Gene" and wife, Elaine Brunnert, Cheyenne, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Mary Brunnert, Watonga, Oklahoma; nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father on October 14, 1968; his mother on February 25, 1982; three brothers, Bill who passed away July 12, 1974, and wife, LaVon Brunnert, Louis J. "Cotton" who passed away August 29, 2000, and wife Freda Brunnert and Benno Brunnert who passed away March 24, 2004; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Brunnert and Margaret Brunnert; and one nephew, Philip Brunnert. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010, and 9 - 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in, the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. A Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Service will be held for Mr. Brunnert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010, followed by a Prayer Service lead by Msgr. Marion Makarewicz with both to be held in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Brunnert at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with Msgr. Marion Makarewicz celebrating. Interment with full military honors will be held in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Spiritual offerings to be applied for Masses or memorial contributions to the St. Aloysius Catholic Church or the Maries Manor Care Center Activities Fund with envelopes available at the Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
