Albert Melcher (Veteran)

Albert Lee Melcher, 62, of Jefferson City, died suddenly on Saturday, June 12, 2010, while fishing in a Crappie Tournament at Truman Lake. He was born February 24, 1948, in Jefferson City, Mo., a son of Cletus and Della (Schanuth) Melcher, who preceded him in death. Albert was united in marriage to Mary Rustemeyer on July 13, 1968, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Albert graduated from Jefferson City High School and retired as a Trackman after 31 years with Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He was a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church. Albert was also a member of numerous other organizations including the: Capital Crappie Club, VFW Post 35, Crappie USA, Crappie Masters Team Tournament Trail, PSE Field Staff and Archery Shack Pro Staff and the United Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting, crappie fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and helping all kids in outdoor activities. He is survived by his wife: Mary; two daughters: Kellie Hebenheimer (husband Jay) of St. Martins and Kristin Melcher-Fisher of Jefferson City; one brother: Bobby Melcher (wife Delores) of Claycomo; two sisters: Sandra "Nan" Siebeneck (husband Bob) of Elston and Debbie Libbert (husband Darrell) of Brazito; five grandchildren: Alexis Melcher, Jake Hebenheimer, Zoe Hebenheimer, Korbin Fisher, and Maddox Fisher. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the St. Martin Catholic Church, with Father Ed Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery with full military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Martin's Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
