Arthur Gilmore (Veteran)

Arthur Edward Gilmore, 85, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Veteran's Hospital in Columbia. Arthur was born August 26, 1924, in New Bloomfield, Missouri, the son of Ray Jackson and Bessie Foster Gilmore. He married Doreen Rex June 26, 1946, in Flixton, Manchester England. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Ashland American Legion Post #152. He was a farmer and truck operator. Owned and operated Gilmore Used Tractor and Equipment over 35 years. He enjoyed coaching baseball summer leagues and loved watching his children grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports. Survivors include his wife, Doreen Gilmore of Ashland; three sons, Terry Rex Gilmore of Columbia, Larry Dean Gilmore and wife Paula of Jefferson City; Mike Gilmore and wife, Glenda of Ashland; two brothers, Ray Gilmore Jr. and wife Bonnie of Holts Summit, Bobbie Gilmore of Ashland; two sisters, Bonnie Gilmore of Paola, Kansas and Joyce Wilhite of St. Elizabeth, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Armenta Gilmore; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Robinson Funeral Home in Ashland, Friday, June 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. with burial following in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday June 10. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
