Carlma Ilene Brewer, 61, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. She was born April 10, 1949, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, a daughter of William Henry and Mary Etta (Ivie) Barnes. On June 9, 1967, Carlma was united in marriage in Watsonville, California, to Gary Brewer, who survives at their home. She worked as a bus monitor for Laidlaw Bus Transportation for a number of years. She enjoyed watching TV, singing gospel music, traveling, visiting zoos, and playing bass guitar. Other survivors include one brother, Marvin Ernest Barnes Sr. of Mokane, Missouri; two sisters, Melva Jean Berry and Pearl Louise Burkett Thomas, both of Granite City, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Holts Summit, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Steele officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
