Florence Ortmeyer

Florence Verona Ortmeyer, 95, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday July 14, 2010, at Adams Street Place. She was born June 24, 1915, in Cole County the daughter of Christian and Anna Raithel Frederich. On November 23, 1939, she was united in marriage to Raymond Ortmeyer, who preceded her in death on January 8, 1986. She attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School. She was a seamstress with Play-Mor Trailer and a Beautician at Raithel's Beauty Shop. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality, and the St. Mary's Auxiliary "Busy Fingers Quilting Group." Florence enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and quilting, through the years she was able to make many beautiful quilts for her family. She is survived by one son: Dennis Ortmeyer (Tanna) of Jefferson City; two daughters: Sharon Murphy (Terry) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Sandra Badger of Jefferson City; one daughter-in-law: Marjorie Meck of St Clair, Mo.; one sister: Gladys Strope of Jefferson City; one brother: Cornelius Raithel (Betty) of Barnett, Mo.; one sister-in-law: Marcelline Raithel of Jefferson City; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son: Marvin Ortmeyer; one son-in-law: Dr. James Badger; four sisters: Alma Rackers, Margaret Landwehr, Rosa Halman and Irma Raithel; and three brothers: Herbert Raithel, Elbert Raithel and Alvin Raithel. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday July 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Thomas McGrath officiating. Interment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the family's choice.
