Orie Griswold

Orie V. Griswold, age 96, of Eldon, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing in Jefferson City. He was born in Fortuna on November 14, 1913, a son of the late James H. and Mary Ann (Hatfield) Griswold. On June 6, 1936, in Prairie Home, he was married to Kathleen Kays, who preceded him in death on September 25, 2003. Orie owned and operated Griswold Store in Fortuna for 30 years and raised turkeys on his farm near Fortuna for many years. Orie was a funeral director at Griswold Kays Funeral Home in Eldon and Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home in Tipton for over 20 years. He was a past member of the Fortuna First Baptist Church, where he was baptized and a current member and deacon at the Eldon First Baptist Church. Orie lived on his own except for the past year where he resided at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. Those who survive him include: two sons, Douglas Griswold and wife Mary of Jefferson City and Joseph Griswold and wife Joyce of Eldon; three grandchildren, Mara Campbell and husband Carter, Scott Griswold and wife Michele and Holly Otto and husband Paul and eight great- grandchildren. Two grandchildren, Bradley and Ivy Griswold; four brothers, Lester, Myron, James and Howard Griswold and four sisters, Florence O'Hara, Gladys Rozzi, Mary Griswold and Virginia Strausner, also preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, with services immediately following at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Eldon. Rev. David White and Rev. Bob Buster will officiate. Interment will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
