Art Jablonsky (Veteran)

Art Jablonsky, 82, of Columbia, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in Salisbury, Mo., after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Art was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Arthur and Alena May Jablonsky. After serving in the United States Army, Art attended Washington University and then graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in architectural engineering. He practiced his craft early in Oklahoma, but soon moved to Missouri, where he spent over 40 years designing buildings now used by thousands of Missourians. His work is spread across the state in the form of residences, elementary and secondary schools, and many other public and private facilities. From the early 1970's, Art ran his own practice, Jablonsky and Associates, in Jefferson City, Mo. He loved being an architect, and his work in the area included design or renovation of the Cole County Courthouse, Jefferson City Library, Jefferson City Police Station, National Guard Armory, and the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Jefferson City. He was a member of the Christian-Disciples of Christ Church. An avid sailor, tennis player, and skier, travel and good food were a pleasure for Art, as were walks with his three dogs. A great husband and father, Art was married to his current wife, Meg Jablonsky, of Columbia for over 30 years. Other survivors include: one daughter, Jan Syrigos and her husband George of Meta, Mo.; one son, Dane and wife Gwyn of Williamsburg, Va.; one stepson, Frank Williams and wife Fides of Waco, Texas; three granddaughters, Reni and Tia Jablonsky and Sophia Syrigos. He is also survived by two sisters, June Lanz and Nancy Hanson, both of St. Louis, their husbands, and many nieces and nephews. We all remember him as a gentle giant with a love of fun, a big heart and even bigger smile. Art's choice was not to have regular funeral services. A memorial celebration of his life is planned for the future. Remembrances are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association-Columbia Chapter or an animal shelter. The family wishes to thank especially the kind attention from the staffs at Chariton Park Health Center, Hospice Compassus, and many medical professionals who have provided care.
