Roy Fridley

Roy E. Fridley, 102, of Windsor, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg. He was born July 6, 1907, in Windsor, the son of Norvel Eugene Fridley and Zora Maude (Bennett) Fridley. On June 27, 1945, in Warrensburg, he married Florence Pauline Wiskur, who preceded him in death on March 22, 1996. Mr. Fridley was born on a farm near Windsor, attended Hill Side, a country school north of Windsor, and then graduated from Windsor High School. He farmed in the Windsor area and also worked in the coal mines during the depression years. Roy devoted himself to trying to improve the economic future for family farmers. He joined the National Farmers Organization (NFO) in its infancy and spent many hours recruiting members and authoring "Letters to the Editor" about the importance of the family farm. Roy had a sense of humor and believed in "taking things as they come." He was a devout Christian who lived his faith and was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette P. de la Torre and her husband Gaston, Jefferson City; a son, Norvel E. Fridley, Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren, Carla Wilson, Nick de la Torre, Brooke Fridley, Becky Basta, Erin Fridley, and Patrick Fridley; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella White and Doris Craig. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Rev. Mary Lou Toft officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
