Michael Riegel

Michael W. Riegel, age 68, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility in Jefferson City. He was born June 24, 1941, a son to the late Matt and Minnie (Voss) Riegel. Michael grew up in Linn and attended St. George School and graduated from Linn High School. Michael worked as a heavy equipment operator, electrician and carpenter over the years. He had been employed by Lawrence Thoenen Home Builder, Joe Thoenen Home Builder, and was self-employed. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church. Michael, being a devout Catholic, attended many retreats at the White House in St. Louis. Michael enjoyed competing in tractor pulls and chain saw competitions as well as hunting and mechanics. Michael is survived by: one daughter, Renee Peters and her husband Jeffrey of Linn; two brothers, Albert and his wife Dixie Riegel of Jefferson City, and Martin and his wife Mary Riegel of Loose Creek; three sisters, Margaret Thoenen of Jefferson City, Mildred Sutton and her husband Bill of Jefferson City, and Theresa Backes and her husband Roger of Jefferson City; two sister-in-laws, Mary Riegel of Loose Creek and Mildred Falter of Freeburg; one grandchild, Tony Peters; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Matt and Minnie Riegel, Michael was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Joe Riegel; and one sister, Mary Jane Riegel. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. I.C. Medina as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. George Parish Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
