Ila Fern Schmutz Priest, age 79, of Denver, Colo., passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the home of her son in Denver, Colo. She was born in Jefferson City on April 11, 1930, to Emmett and Vera Schmutz. She attended Moreau Heights grade school and graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1948. She graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis as a RN in January 1953. On February 5, 1953, she was married to Donald J. Priest, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1999. She was a charter member of the Northglenn United Church of Christ. She was an active member of the Womens Fellowship of the church. She also was a member of the Happy Bookers Book Club and the Red Hatters in Northglenn, Colo. She is survived by two sons, Jon and his wife Carolyn, and Jeff and his wife Melissa, one grandson, Brian, and two granddaughters, Meghan and Katie, all of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Dale Schmutz, and two sisters, Mary Emma Boessen and Sylva Hunolt and her husband Rick, both of Jefferson City; sisters-in-law, Virginia Helton and Margie Coots her husband Jim of Holts Summit; and brother-in-law, James Priest, Jefferson City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, at the Olinger Highland Funeral Home in Thornton, Colo., with burial at the Fort Logan Cemetery.
