Erika Lina Ramos, 72, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Golden Living Center. She was born December 26, 1937, in Crailsheim, Germany, a daughter of the late Sixtus and Lina (Knoedler) Rapel. Erika was raised by wonderful foster parents, Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Laush. She graduated from high school in Crailsheim, Germany. On April 17, 1967, she was united in marriage in Rolla, to Manuel G. Ramos, who survives at their home. Erika was a clerk for the Missouri Department of Transportation for 14 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member and Golden Eagle of the Fraternal Order of Eagle's Aerie #2693. When Erika became an United States Citizen on May 2, 1980, this is what she had to say: "Ich bin Stolz dass ich Ehre hatte und das Vorecht, ein Amerikanischen Berger zu warden", which means: "I am proud that I was given the honor and privilege to become an American citizen." She is also survived by five children: Buddy Ramos (wife Mary) of Olathe, Kan., Walter Fleming (wife Jeannie) of Peyton, Colo., Rita Pevehouse (husband Terry) of Amarillo, Texas, Kathy White (husband Jeff) of Holts Summit, and Elizabeth Morris of Nederland, Texas; a son-in-law: Elmer Rigsby of North Richland Hills, Texas; two sisters: Martha Hornberger of Satteldorf, Germany and Sigrid Grellert of Crailshelm, Germany; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Pat Rigsby and a brother: Dieter Knodler. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
