Carleen B. "Corky" Frey, age 79, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Autumn Meadows Skilled Care Facility in Linn. Corky was born June 24, 1930, a daughter to the late Buel and Lavora (Thompson) McKnight. She grew up in the St. Aubert and Chamois area. Corky attended grade school in St. Aubert and attended high school at Chamois. On November 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Weldon D. "Bud" Frey. He survives of the home. Corky worked at the garment factory in Chamois and later alongside Bud for 24 years at the Shelter Insurance Agency. Corky was a member of the Church of Christ in Chamois where she taught children's Sunday school class for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 506. In 1977, she became a licensed EMT in the State of Missouri and served as a volunteer for the Osage Ambulance District. Corky loved to attend public auctions, often going early and staying till she had purchased what she desired. Over the years, she accumulated many fine pieces of glassware and furniture which she loved to show to any visitor who came to her home. She also loved to spend time crappie fishing with Bud and her lifelong friends, Rueben and Mickey. In addition to her husband Bud of Jefferson City, she is survived by: one son, Rodney Frey of Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Vanessa Frey of Ferguson; one brother, Randall and his wife Lillian McKnight of Jefferson City; two sisters-in-law, Laverne Starke of Jefferson City and Loretta Lalk and her husband Clarence of Morrison; one step- sister-in-law, Verda Townley of Chamois; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Corky was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Helen Rowe and her husband Jack; a brother-in-law, Marvin Starke; step-father, Monroe Townley; a step- brother, Clarence Townley; two step-sisters, Helen Nichols and Renelda Harris; and her husband Ervin. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Morton Chapel in Chamois. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Morton Chapel in Chamois with Gary Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Creek Cemetery.
