James Otto Jerden, 90, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. James was born on June 26, 1919, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Elmer P. and Alvine Ellen Pixberg Jerden. He was united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1950, in Junction City, Kan., to Doris Darlene Rutz who died on Nov. 23, 2009. Mr. Jerden was a 1937, graduate of Beaumont High School, St. Louis, Mo. As a U.S. Army veteran, he saw military combat during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era. He was later employed for many years with the Federal Government. He was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph and an avid Missouri Tiger fan. A devoted husband for 59 years to Doris Jerden; he was a loving father to Brenda (Mike) Shelton, Chesterfield, Mo.; Steve Jerden, St. Louis; Craig (Melody) Jerden, Merriam, Kan.; Jane (Roger) Dudenhoeffer, Jefferson City; loving grandfather to Scott, Brian, Jessi, Stephanie, Chris, Jamie, Ashton, Trent; and a loving great-grandfather to Mia. He is also survived by a sister, Marian Murnin, St. Louis. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Jerden and one sister, Margaret Walsh. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
