Charles Hartley Nance, 82, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his home. He was born October 25, 1927, in Stockton, the son of Charles C. and Mary E. (Hartley) Nance. On May 16, 1949, Charlie was united in marriage to Doris Rank, who survives at their home. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1946 to 1947. Charlie was a salesman for N.O. Nelson and Woodman Engineering. Following retirement, he found great enjoyment in working for Reagan Honda as a driver. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Spinning Heals Square Dancing and the Mid-Missouri Old Car Club. Other survivors include one son: James Nance of Jefferson City; two daughters: Cheryl Hammond and husband Dave of Mexico, and Susan Haggard and husband Terry of Fayette; one sister: Margaret Tyler of Kansas City; five grandchildren: William Hammond of Columbia, David Hammond of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Justin Demand of Smithton, Valen (Wolchko) Kastens of Columbia, Dale Wolchko Jr. of Columbia; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children: John Charles Nance and Lynn Christine Demand. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Hobratschk officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Compassus or the American Stroke Association.
