Renegades top Bombers for fourth straight win

SEDALIA - It was a big ninth inning for the Jefferson City Renegades.

Jefferson City scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning, extending its winning streak to four games Thursday with an 11-6 victory against the Sedalia Bombers.

Sedalia, the defending MINK League champion, scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 6.

Jefferson City responded by sending 10 batters to the plate in the ninth.

Thomas Ruether opened the inning with a double to right field, then Peyton Leeper hit a two-run home run to put the Renegades on top 8-6. The homer was the second this season for Leeper.

Dede Cole reached on an error and Trent Pobst singled before Sedalia recorded its first out of the inning. Gaven Strobel grounded out to second base, scoring Cole to put the Renegades ahead by three runs.

Later in the inning, Logan Haring had an RBI single and scored to make the score 11-6.

Lane Threlkeld, who finished the eighth inning on the mound for Jefferson City, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the win. In 1 innings, he struck out two, retiring five of the six batters he faced.

Connor McKenna had the no-decision for the Renegades. He pitched 7 innings and allowed six runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Bombers had a pair of two-run homers. Tre Turner hit one in the second to put the Bombers up 4-2, then Nick Hagedorn hit one in the eighth to tie the game.

Jefferson City also finished with two home runs. Lincoln Orellana hit a three-run shot in the fourth to give the Renegades a 5-4 advantage.

Leeper, Haring and Ruether each finished with two hits. Orellana had a game-high five RBI and has a team-high 13 RBI this season.

Hagedorn went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead Sedalia (6-2).

Jefferson City (6-5) returns home for a non-MINK League game today against the Kansas City Monarchs. First pitch is at 7 p.m. at Vivion Field.
