Archery: Wankum wins state title

BRANSON, Mo. - Jacob Wankum of Helias captured a state title in the Missouri State National Archery in the Schools Tournament held last weekend.

Wankum, a sophomore, was first in the bulls-eye tournament with a score of 292 out of 300 to top a field of 383 competitors.

Andrew Hasenback was fifth in the event with a 291 as Helias finished fifth out of 32 teams with a team score of 3,401.

Archers that reach certain qualifying scores advance to the Eastern National Tournament, which will be held May 10-12 in Louisville, Ky.

Other area schools in the bulls-eye tournament included:

Fatima was seventh with a 3,347.

Blair Oaks was 13th with a 3,277. Kamryn Twehus of the Blair Oaks was fourth among 336 girls competitors with a 292.

Calvary Lutheran was 16th with a 3,244. Rebecca Schatte was seventh in the girls standings with a 290.

Jefferson City was 21st with a 3,215. Brooklynn Weis was third among the girls competitors with a 293.

Chamois was 27th with a 3,120.

Middle and elementary school results for the bulls-eye tournament included:

St. Stanislaus was fourth out of 49 teams in the middle school competition with a 3,328 and 16th out of 17 in the elementary schools with a 2,577. Bridger Markway was fourth of out of 322 boys with a 274.

Trinity Lutheran was sixth with a 3,293. Joselyn Scheppers was fourth out of 463 with a 286 in girls. Carter Hunget and Sam Sellars tied for eighth out of 562 in boys at 285. In the elementary schools, Trinity Lutheran was fifth with a 3,029. Bridger Markway was fourth of out of 322 individuals

St. Joseph School in Westphalia was ninth with a 3,239. Wyatt Berhorst was seventh with a 286.

St. Joseph Cathedral was 17th with 3,193.

Immaculate Conception was 23rd with a 3,131. Renee Berkey was fourth with a 275.

St. Martins was 24th out of 49 in the middle school with a 3,121.

The Eugene middle school team was 37th with a 3,060.

Rylee Davis of Chamois was eighth out of 211 girls elementary school competitors with a 271.

In the 3D Tournament, Helias finished seventh in the high school event with a 1,668.

Cayden Kinter, a sophomore, finished with a 290 to take fifth among 184 competitors.

Blair Oaks was 10th out of 22 teams with a total of 1.649. Kamryn Twehus had a score of 287, fifth among 151 competitors in the tournament.

Fatima finished 15th with a 1,603, while Jefferson City was 16th with a 1,593. Chamois was 22nd with a 1,274.

In the middle school competition, St. Stanislaus took the team title with a 1,668. William Herrbold was second in the boys individual standings with a 287, while Elijah Bruemmer was fifth with a 280. Liz Drainer was seventh on the girls side with a 277, while Alyssa Gipe was ninth with a 276. Bridger Markway of St. Stanislaus was second among elementary school boys with a 272.

Trinity Lutheran was eighth in the middle schools with a 1,586 and fifth in the elementary schools with a 1,466. Hayden Masters was ninth in the elementary schools boys competition with a 260, while Leslie Lock was seventh among the girls with a 250.

St. Francis Xavier in Taos was 11th out of 22 middle schools with 1,572. Griffon Talken finished fifth in the boys with a 267.

St. Joseph of Westphalia was 17th with a score of 1,496. Michael Kloeppel was third in the individual boys with a 282.
