The Jefferson City Lady Jays didn't have many surprises Thursday.

"It was pretty much exactly what I expected," Lady Jays coach Tom Guinn said after Jefferson City finished 1-0-2 in Jamboree action at the 179 Soccer Park.

Guinn figured defense would be a strength of his team early and it was Thursday as Jefferson City posted three shutouts.

"We return a lot of experience on that end of the field and I think that showed," Guinn said.

On the other hand, Jefferson City managed just one goal in the three 25-minute sessions against Fatima, School of the Osage and Helias.

"Right now, we're still trying to figure where the goals are going to come from this season," Guinn said. "We scored one goal in 75 minutes of play. We probably should have done a little better than that."

Jefferson City opened with a scoreless draw against Fatima. The Lady Jays had the better of the play, keeping the Lady Comets on the defensive end of the field for most of the contest.

The Lady Jays got their lone score in a 1-0 victory against School of the Osage.

Taylor Cook got the goal for Jefferson City, heading in a corner kick from Brianne Campbell.

Again, Jefferson City kept the ball on the opponents side of the field.

Jefferson City wrapped up Thursday's action with a scoreless draw against Helias.

"Helias was dangerous," Guinn said. "They had eight goals tonight before they played us and we had to do a very good job to keep them off the scoreboard."

Megan Duffield was in goal for the Lady Jays in their three shutouts Thursday.

Jefferson City is working five basketball players, whose season just ended last Saturday, into the soccer rotation.

"Four of them figure to be starters for us, so I know we're going to have a little different look when we get them back into the swing of things."

Jefferson City was scheduled to start the season Saturday at Ursuline Academy. But that game has been cancelled.

The Lady Jays will now open Tuesday at home against School of the Osage before hosting a Shootout next Friday and Saturday. Jefferson City will face Washington on Friday and Republic on Saturday.
