Golf: Men's Stroke Play Championship

Two Jefferson City golfers are in the top 15 after Monday's first round of the Missouri Golf Association's Men's Stroke Play Championship at WingHaven Country Club in O'Fallon.

Gabe Trowbridge shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for seventh place out of 152 golfers. Trowbridge started on the back nine and was 3 over through 13 holes, but he birdied three of his last five holes and bogeyed the seventh to get back to 1 over.

Kory Franks shot 2 over to tie for 15th place through one round. Franks started on the front nine and struggled at first as well, shooting 4 over on his first nine holes. He then birdied the 11th and 13th holes to get back to 2 over.

Kyle Szyhowski of St. Charles and Gene Hart of St. Louis are tied for the first-round lead with a 2-under 70.

Other area golfers in the tournament include Nathan Erickson, who is tied for 60th place at 7 over, and Tanner Elder, who shot 10 over and is in a seven-way tie for 92nd place. Logan Taylor of Holts Summit is tied for 108th with a 13-over 85.

All golfers will play their second round today, while the field will be cut to the top 50 players and ties for Wednesday's third and final round.
